In November People and Places was invited to attend the Proflight Annual Tour Operators Awards hosted at Flatdogs in South Luangwa. During my short visit I spent a night at Kafunta River Lodge where I was looked after very well by Kolo and team. The lodge was looking great, the food was excellent and the team of wonderful staff went out of their way to give me a special short stay. I also popped into the new Mulberry Mongoose workshop and visited the Tribal Textiles and Project Luangwa Shops.
As always, the Proflight function was well attended and we had a very productive meeting. One of the things I love about Proflight is that they place great value on feedback from the tourism sector and always use our feedback to look at further developing their routes and schedules. As many of you already know, they have an excellent schedule in place for 2023 which includes their new flights to Lilongwe from Mfuwe 3 times a week. Other new routes include Kasama and Mongu. Proflight have also just taken delivery of the 3rd 50-seater jet.
I flew to Livingstone, courtesy of Procharter’s amazing Kingair (felt like royalty), and spent a night at the new and stunning Mukwa River Lodge, hosted by Linda and her fantastic team. Mukwa have definitely set the bar very high when it comes to their offering – with no small detail forgotten. For example, they have a selection of reading glasses at reception and in their restaurant for guests who don’t have their own glasses close at hand. Their food is exceptional with a lot of the produce taken from their own garden.
The following day I headed to Kasane for the Africa Eden show. Very exciting to drive across the new bridge at Kazungula and use the new one stop immigration service. During my time in Chobe, I stayed at Cresta Mowana. I have not stayed there for many years so it was lovely to revisit and I was very impressed. The Africa Eden show was a great 3 days of meetings and networking and it was a very productive time for the industry in general. I greatly enjoyed meeting many of you there and look forward to working together in 2023. We are excited to have the next Africa Eden show hosted in Livingstone and hope to see many of you there in November 2023.
