Mutinondo Wilderness is paradise for the free spirits who want to hike, swim, cycle and generally celebrate pristine miombo woodland and inselbergs, over 60 km of well maintained and signed tracks and views from horizon to horizon without evidence of human activity. There are 4 en suite chalets, built and furnished by local craftsmen out of local materials. Meals are wholesome, prepared by local staff from local ingredients with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Location
Mutinondo Wilderness is situated between Luangwa Valley, Lavushi Manda, Bangwelu Swamps and Kasanka, half way between Copperbelt/Lusaka and Lake Tanganyika/Tanzanian border. Access is via self drive or road transfers (approximately 8 hours drive from Lusaka) or via charter flight.

There are 3 brick and thatch rooms - 1 double which can take 2 extra beds for children (Mulombwa), 1 twin which can take a bunk bed for 2 children (Kayimbi) and 1 family which can take up to 5 people. The rooms are simple and rustic but comfortable built and furnished by local craftsmen out of local materials:
All rooms are en-suite, Mulombwa has a bath, the other rooms have showers
Tea and coffee can be delivered to your rooms in the morning and ordered during the day
The rooms allow plenty of fresh air and cool breeze, doors and windows can be left open when sleeping
There are also 8 campsites widely spaced with plenty of functional facilities excluding power points. There is also an isolated self-catering camp 11 km from the main lodge.

Activities include walking unguided on daily trips up inselbergs, along rivers and to waterfalls. The river is safe to swim in and drink out of and canoes are available to explore some of the river.
Longer hikes (from 2 to 5 days) can be arranged at an extra cost through the community conservation area, with wild-camping at special riverside spots en route to the spectacular Mutinondo Waterfalls on the escarpment of the Luangwa Valley, in the safe hands of a guide and community scouts and porters to help carry your tents and food.
Children of all ages are accepted but it is the parent's responsiblity to look after them at all times.
In terms of accommodation there is one double which can take 2 extra beds for children (Mulombwa), 1 twin which can take a bunk bed for 2 children (Kayimbi) and 1 family which can take up to 5 people.

Open all year round
The lodge buy as much locally as possible and use local staff and contractors from the nearby villages. All infrastructure and repairs, including their 25km driveway and 60 km of paths are maintained by hand using local contractors, thatchers, tailors, builders and carpenters. Their policy is to put money into the community wherever possible. Meat, fruit and vegetables are sourced locally where ever possible from farmers and local marketeers (not Supermarket chains). The hikes to the Mutinondo Waterfalls engage community scouts and porters, financially contributing towards the Conservation Community Society's activities. They also sponsor the Chongololo Clubs in 5 schools in the area.
There is limited solar power at the camp and limited wifi in the office.
