Bushcamp Company - Chindeni

South Luangwa

A magnificent tented camp (one of our firm favourites) on the edge of a permanent lagoon with the Chindeni Hills providing a truly breathtaking backdrop.

Although Chindeni Camp is tented, it is probably one of the most luxurious bushcamps in South Luangwa – to the point where you are torn between staying in your room and going out to enjoy the incredible surrounding area!

The camp overlooks a lagoon which attracts birds and animals from miles around which you can enjoy from your own private verandah or settle back with a gin-and-tonic in the central lounge and dining area – a glorious expanse of varnished decking arranged on several levels around the surrounding ebony trees, boasting, of course, the same spectacular view of the serene lagoon and its inhabitants.

Overlooking an oxbow lagoon with the Chindeni Hills forming a dramatic backdrop, Chindeni Camp is located in the remote Southern area of South Luangwa National Park. About 2.5 hours drive from Mfuwe Lodge at gamedrive speed.

Access into Mfuwe Airport is either via scheduled flight from Lusaka on Proflight, direct flight from Jeki or Royal during the peak season or via scheduled flight on Ulendo Air from Lilongwe. Charter flights can also be organised.

Raised on a wooden decking, Chindeni’s 4 en-suite magnificent canvas tents have private decks from which one can view the resident big game often in attendance, or simply enjoy the extensive birdlife and serenity of the camp and lagoon.

Chindeni’s spectacular view overlooking the Chindeni Lagoon and on to the Chindeni Hills provides possibly the most beautiful sunrise you’ll ever see.

The dining area is on stilts above the oxbow lagoon with an adjoining lounge area for relaxing in the open air. At night a campfire is set up on the deck for pre-dinner and after-dinner drinks.

Game Drives and Walking Safaris

Chindeni is within walking distance from Chamilandu (although this is a long walk) and Bilimungwe making these camps an ideal fit on a South Luangwa walking safari.

Avid game viewers and birdwatchers can set out on superb walking safaris, game drives, night drives and scenic sundowner trips in the surrounding area. Or you can just park yourself in a deckchair at camp and watch the abundance of game that is drawn to the lagoon.
