Fig Tree Bush Camp is situated on the banks of the Shishamba River, an exciting short drive from its sister camp, Mukambi Lodge. The camp has an elephantine Fig Tree, hence the name, as its centerpiece, hanging over the dining Boma.
Lagoons are formed seasonally along the Shishamba River, leaving sprawling, sandy beaches along its length. Fig Tree Bush Camp has one such beach of its own, allowing guests to unwind under the illustrious African stars after supper, around a hearty campfire, encompassed by the sounds of the bush.
Four luxurious safari tents, raised 3 metres of the earth to offer spectacular views of the River on one side and the surrounding plains on the other side, granting unique opportunities to spot game from the veranda, and enjoy the privacy provided by your own en-suite bathroom.

Location
Fig Tree Camp is set on the banks of the Shishamba River in Central Kafue National Park. Access is either via charter flight into Chunga Airstrip and then a 1 hour road transfer into camp, or via road transfer from Lusaka (via Mukambi Safari Lodge – 3.5 hours to Mukambi and a further 1.5 hours to Fig Tree Camp).

There are 4 en-suite luxury safari tents on 3- meter platforms above the ground giving a spectacular view over the lagoon and the surrounding bush. There are 2 doubles and 2 twins
Each safari tent has the following features:

Giving Back:
Use of renewable energy - all three Mukambi camps run on 100% renewable solar energy and at Mukambi Safari Lodge they were the first in Zambia to install the most environmental friendly battery technology (LiFePO4). The Freedom Won battery gave Mukambi the opportunity to reduce its Carbon Footprint and greatly reduce their negative environmental impact, whilst maintaining the high standard of service.
Plastic Free - Mukambi strives to be plastic-free – they have water bottles for their international guests which are reusable and can be filled at the water dispenser. They have introduced glass and biodegradable straws, glass refillable amenities, and biodegradable packaging on all their goods from Lusaka PLUS they use eco-friendly cleaning materials. They also have a fantastic vegetable garden, growing as many of their own herbs and vegetables at the lodge.
Conservation – Mukambi is working closely with several NGOs, including Zambian Primate Project(ZPP), Panthera and Zambia Carnivore Programme (ZCP), as well as Department of National Parks and Wildlife, supporting anti-poaching as well as other conservation goals.
Support of local communities - Long-term conservation only can be accomplished in close cooperation with the local communities. Some of the projects launched by Mukambi to support the local community included a borehole for clean drinking water, giving the Mukambi Women’s Group an outlet for their handmade crafts in their curio shop, and supporting the local chieftainess with farming inputs, like oxen, ploughs and fertilizer. They also have a job training programme and 50 members of the local community now have permanent employment.
