Green Safaris - Ila Safari Lodge

Kafue

Ila Safari Lodge named after one of the local tribes in the area, is the flagship lodge of Green Safaris. This tranquil and luxurious eco-lodge is surrounded by the great wilderness of Kafue National Park. Ila is ideal either for a stand alone 3 night stay, or in combination with one of the more remote camps in the Northern Busanga area or Southern part of the Park. Kafue National Park, the largest and oldest park in Zambia, is one of the last great expanses of remote and unspoiled wilderness in Africa. Here, lions aren’t rare - bumping into another game viewing vehicle is.

THE FARM:  Green Safaris runs a community farming project near the Nalusanga Gate. This project is aimed at benefitting the local communities by providing them with alternative food sources and giving them the opportunity to sell the excess to lodges and at the local market.

Going Green: Ila Safari Lodge has been designed to operate 100% on solar power. In addition, they run their own sewage treatment centre and biogas plant. Rubbish that cannot be composted and used at their community farm is separated and recycled where such a service is available in Zambia. They operate a solar boat and an electric game drive vehicle. They also focus on the little things by providing filtered water in re-useable glass bottles plus many other small efforts that all count towards creating a sustainable environment.  They purchase Proudly Zambian products as much as possible.

Pack for a Purpose:  Will you have a little extra space in your luggage? Ila Safari Lodge supports the local Chunga Community as much as they can and we are often told by our clients that, had they known in advance, they would have loved to have brought supplies along with them.

So, if you would like to contribute, then much needed pens, educational books, posters, medicines, medical equipment and sports equipment will make a huge impact on this school.  The Chunga school has a boarding facility and provides education to children from far and wide from the ages of 6 to 16.  Many prominent businessmen and members of Zambian society schooled here.

Nalsunga School: Building the Nalsunga Secondary school, purchasing desks, books and cupboards.

2020 initiatives include Game Rangers International, Panthera, Hack the Poacher, Zambian Carnivore Project and South Luangwa Conservation Society.
